Volunteer experience includes serving as chair of two National Academy of Sciences committees: 1) Committee on Landscape Conservation Cooperatives (2014–present) and 2) Committee on Challenges and Opportunities in Earth Surface Processes (2007–2010). Led and/or served on steering committees for multiple NSF-funded workshops, including two workshops on using lidar for topographic analysis. Served as chair of the Department of Earth and Environment, 2013–2016; served as chair of the Environmental Studies Program ~10 years since 2003.
