Charge
Identify relevant data science topics for the development of a data science curriculum for the Earth and space sciences. Guide the development of the curriculum once the course listing has been agreed upon. Identify how to increase awareness and value of the new certification(s). Provide insight and expertise for the creation and administration of the professional certification program geared towards Earth and space science.

Key Initiatives for 2014-2015
Provide input in the formation and creation of a data science curriculum for Earth and space sciences.

Create a course listing for the data science curriculum.

Review draft course materials and make recommendations for improvement.

Provide input in the data science marketing plan and pilot, analyze results and make recommendations for improving the performance of the program.

Provide guidance in developing the approach and topical areas for a data science, professional certification program for the Earth and space sciences.

Recommend subject matter experts to develop the specific test criteria for a professional certification exam(s).

This committee meets for one day at AGU headquarters annually and virtually throughout the year as needed.
