2013 Timeline for AGU Fellows Nominations: 15 January–31 March 2013

During the 2011 Fall Meeting, the AGU Council voted to align the nomination cycles for all Union honors. Nominations for the 2013 class of Fellows will be accepted 15 January–31 March 2013. AGU will announce the 2013 class of Fellows in July 2013.

Fellows Nomination submission site opens.

31 March 2013  Deadline extended!
Fellows Nominations submission site closes.

Week of 1 April 2013
AGU and Union Fellows Selection Committee Chair host a teleconference with Section and Focus Group Fellows Committee Chairs to discuss the deliberation process.

31 March – 8 April 2013
AGU staff reviews nomination packages for eligibility and completeness and prepares nomination materials for Section and Focus Group Fellows Committee review.

8 April 2013
Nomination materials are directed to Section and Focus Group Fellows committees based on (1) the nominee’s primary affiliation and (2) up to three additional sections/focus groups selected by the nominator. Nominees who indicate a secondary section or focus group affiliation may be reviewed as well if the initial pool of nominees does not meet the primary evaluation criteria or if a low number of nominees were submitted for review.

8 April – 13 May 2013
Section and Focus Group Fellows Committees review and consider the nominees. Each Section and Focus Group Fellows Committee is allocated a number of nominees that can move forward to the Union Fellows Selection Committee. The number of candidates allocated to each section and focus group is based on the percentage of AGU members with primary and secondary affiliations to their group. Section and Focus Group Fellows Committees submit their ranked list of nominees to move forward to the Union Fellows Selection Committee.

16 May – 10 July 2013
Union Fellows Selection Committee reviews and considers the nominees through a series of evaluations.

11 July 2013
The 2013 Fellows class are elected by the Union Fellows Selection Committee. This honor may be bestowed upon 0.1% of the membership in any given year.

31 July 2013
AGU officially announces the Class of 2013 AGU Fellows.

December 2013
AGU formally recognizes the Class of 2013 Fellows during the Honors Tribute, held at the Fall Meeting in San Francisco, Calif.
